EX MACHINA – Trailer Review

Ava, a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated, seductive–and more deceptive–than the two men could have imagined.

Plot : Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company’s brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac). Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test – charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan’s latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated, seductive–and more deceptive–than the two men could have imagined.

This looks like a promising scifi film.

Hopefully this trailer hasn’t given too much of the story away. This can be a tight thriller with few interesting characters and some intelligent human(?) drama. The possibly unreliable machine vs the unreliable human drama might not be a first but the presentation and the visual style of this film does impress.

There haven’t been many good scifi thrillers recently. So one can hope that Ex Machina doesn’t disappoint.

Alex Garland makes his directorial debut with Ex Machina. He earlier works are as a novelist (The Beach) and a screenwriter (28 Days Later, Sunshine).

We are Excited about this Movie!
